AccorHotels commits to closing pay gap for women
and having 50% female GMs
As a member of the HeForShe movement, AccorHotels is committed to gender equality and equal pay for the same job.
With women’s salaries greatly lagging behind men in Asia Pacific, according to a study by the Asian Development Bank, (around 15% pay gap in Greater China and the Philippines; and 30% in Malaysia, India and Singapore), the group is targeting equal pay for its women employees by 2020 in France, Spain, Brazil and Australia – with a longer-term goal to achieve equality across the entire group.
The group has also committed to having at least 35% women General Managers in its hotels by the end of 2017, with a longer term goal of 50%.
Since 2008, the group’s Solidarity AccorHotels endowment fund has also supported 36 back-to-work projects entirely dedicated to the professional reintegration of women, helping more than 8,000 women across 19 countries. In Asia, 6 projects are entirely dedicated to women in great difficulty in China, India and Myanmar where more than 1,400 women are supported.
“A good indicator to a fair and equitable working community is how it encourages, nurtures and rewards female talent,” said Christine Rumble, Chief Talent & Culture Officer AccorHotels Asia Pacific. “We have introduced several measures to make work fairer for women across the group and ensure we have equal representation at all levels. This year we are launching a project to analyse pay equality in China, Indonesia and Australia.”

“AccorHotels is also striving to reduce the pay gap between men and women by offering a more gender equal remuneration policy and to encourage projects that help train and integrate young women in difficulty through the endowment fund, Solidarity Accor.”

Dress for Success aims to empower women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and the development tools to help women thrive in work and in life. On the 7th of March 2017, a charity dinner will be organised by Dress for Success Singapore at Novotel Singapore Clarke Quay. AccorHotels Singapore will support the event through ticket sales and raffle prizes contributed by five AccorHotels properties.
For the 2nd consecutive year, UN Women is organising HeForShe Arts week globally. AccorHotels Thailand is an active player in the HeForShe movement and a sponsor of HeForShe Arts Week Bangkok. Mr. Patrick Basset, Chief Operating Officer of AccorHotels Upper Southeast & Northeast Asia, will participate in a panel discussion on gender equality in the workplace with senior-level representatives from the private sector on the 8th of March 2017 at the Bangkok Art & Cultural Center.
Created in December 2012, AccorHotels’ WAAG network was created to inspire women to evolve within the group to fight against stereotypes and to reach gender equality. Asia Pacific has the strongest WAAG network in the world, with over 1,400 members (or over 33% of global membership), showing there is a real push for change in the region, with both men and women represented in the network. For Women’s Day International, the group’s hotels will celebrate women across the network with a range of celebrations and activities. This includes the publication of a book called “Welcome to the World of our Women General Managers” which celebrates the story of 24 women who have become General Managers in the past year.
